En 1987 el Colectivo Boanerges Cerrato, integrado por Janet Pavone, Daniel Hopewell y Cecilia Herrero, realizó el primer Taller de Muralismo para niñas y niños en el Centro Cultural Héroes y Mártires de Batahola en Managua. En los dos años que duró el taller, cada sábado, las niñas y niños pintaron murales en las paredes del centro, de la escuela del barrio y de la capilla. También hicieron tres esculturas en los jardines del centro.
La comunidad del Barrio Óscar Gámez ofreció la casa comunal y su apoyo. De este modo, en Septiembre de 1989 se inició el primer taller de muralismo para niñas y niños, cada sábado. El resto es historia….
Our history
In 1987 the Boanerges Cerrato painter´s collective; Janet Pavone, Daniel Hopewell and Cecilia Herrero, began the first children´s muralism workshops in the Heroes and Martyrs of Batahola Cultural Center in Managua, Nicaragua. During the 2 years that the workshop lasted, every Saturday, the children painted murals on the walls of the local school and on the walls of the center and its chapel. They also made sculptures for the centers gardens. When the Collective moved to Esteli, nicaragua they searched for a space to continue doing the workshops. The community of the neighborhood Oscar Gamez offered the community center and heir support. In September 1989 the children´s muralism workshop began their first session in esteli, which has continued every Saturday, ever since. The rest is history……. |
